Spring Time Ants
Spring is the time to prepare for ants. Ants love warm weather and will come out at night to find any type of food source. Warm sunny days are an ideal environment for ants to thrive both outdoors and within the walls of your home. It is not uncommon to see ant colonies building nests in different areas of our homes or out in our yards and gardens. Ants can become very aggravating when they undermine paved areas and destroy garden beds. Ants will quickly find their way into our homes and offices to cause havoc. Ants will also often nest in roofs, wall cavities and in house foundations. They will spoil food, destroy plant pots and even have the potential to cause electrical problems. Ants are absolutely the most common household pest nuisance around.
Ants survive in large colonies that range from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of fellow ants. As ants begin to populate, their food needs will increase. When ants are in search of food, they leave behind an invisible chemical trail to easily find their way back to the nesting place. This creates a handy road map for ants, from nest to food and food to nest. Even if you destroy every ant you can see, the scent of that invisible trail will be found by the other ants in the colony, and so the ant problem you thought you just eliminated will soon quickly return. Ants are not known to cause any serious health problems, although an ant bite can become very irritating. Ants are one of the most aggravating pets that will invade your home.
Ants are so tiny, they are able to fit through any type of crack or crevice they can find to gain access into your home. It is therefore important to seal these entry points. Keeping a tidy kitchen will help strengthen your chances of deterring ants from gathering into your home. Ants are capable of sniffing out very small amounts of food, like crumbs, left overs in the sink or candy that fell behind a sofa. Ants are especially fond of extremely sweet foods. They are also likely to gather under sinks where there is a water leak. A reliable water source for ants will assist them in growing a healthy colony and deprivation of water will deter them from sticking around if they should find their way in.
